Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic Stainless Steel Review

Straight from the Master Collection, the Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) Master Geographic Stainless Steel Men’s Watch is a stunning example of luxury design fashioned for the sophisticated man. This well-crafted Swiss timepiece has some unique design and functional aspects that makes this Master Geographic a perfect dress watch to impress.

Specs/Size/Design

This 39mm stainless steel timepiece features a stunning silver dial with a sun ray-brushed finish that truly sets this watch apart. This classic analogue watch features an Arabic 12 numeral and pairs it with stunning silver-tone indexes that mark the hours. With sub dials, a power reserve indicator, scratch resistant genuine Sapphire, an alligator leather strap, skeleton backing, and an incredible Swiss-made JLC 34-jewel automatic movement, this men’s Master Geographic will give you everything from World Time, power reserve, the time, date, and a Chronograph function.

Power Source

This JLC luxury timepiece uses a self-winding automatic movement with 34 jewels, 1 barrel, and a v.p.h. of 28,800. The engine is a Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 939A/1 (also referred to as JLC 939), which keeps track of the hour, minute, second, date, and power reserve. Using 310 pieces in total, this Swiss-made automatic movement will give wearers a 43-hour power reserve.

The Good

The positive aspects of this timepiece are nearly countless. First off, the high quality stainless steel case is 39mm in diameter and features a skeleton back that shows off the gorgeous JLC 939 calibre automatic Swiss movement. The front features a genuine scratch resistant Sapphire crystal window that protects the stunning silver dial that complements the steel of the case and fixed bezel. The 12 o’clock position features an Arabic numeral while the remaining hours utilize applied silver, pointed indexes. The hour and minute hands are a solid silver tone while the long, thin minute hand is blued.

Now, the great part — the dial design. At the 2 o’clock position is a silver sub dial with a blue hand that tracks the day of the month (date) via Arabic numerals. The 6 o’clock sub dial is a 12 hour with two small, blue sub dial hands. The very small dial to the left of the 6 o’clock sub dial fills with blue as the 12 and 24-hour marks pass, allowing the wearer to see AM and PM.

Finally, sweeping across the dial from nearly 8 o’clock to 11 o’clock, is a power reserve indicator. With another gorgeous blued hand, this sub dial sweeps from 0 to just past the 40-hour mark (the power reserve is 43 hours on this timepiece), so you can always keep track of the power reserve when the timepiece is not being worn. Because this timepiece goes a step above the rest, the beautiful design extends further with a World Time sweeping sub dial at the outer rim of the silver dial between the 4 and 8 o’clock positions.

The Bad

This luxury JLC Master Geographic Stainless Steel Men’s Watch is a well-designed and perfectly oiled machine. With a high-grade movement and flawless functionality, this timepiece does not feature any negative qualities. The only downside is that they are made in relatively small quantities, and the demand is such that you wont find this sitting next to fashion brands like Gucci, Armani or Lacoste watches in a traditional watch retailer – they are quite hard to find. For the price as well, it would have been great to see a 100-metre water resistance rather than the 50 meter resistance it has, but 50-metre (165 feet) is still decent.

Functionality

The water resistance is decent in this watch, at 5 BAR. This translates into 5 ATM / 50 meter (165 feet) water resistance. The front and back crystals are scratch resistant Sapphire and the casing is made of a durable and high quality stainless steel. The black strap is made from Alligator leather and is the perfect complementary band for this silver and blue-accented piece by Jaeger-LeCoultre. The beautiful 34-jewel JLC calibre 393A/1, Swiss-made automatic movement is gorgeous and ticks with perfection.

The Highlights

The highlights of this watch are easy to see. The size of the 39mm case is the perfect size for a luxury timepiece. Rather than looking like a large, gaudy watch, there is no doubt that when you lay your eyes upon this Master Geographic, that it is of pure quality. With dual-crowns on either side of the case and features ranging from Chronograph, date, World Time, power reserve, 12 hour, along with central hour/minute/second timekeeping, this Jaeger-LeCoultre is stunning in design and functionality.

The powerful 393 calibre engine of this self-winding automatic Swiss movement is powerful and can handle all of the functions and features that this Master Geographic has to offer. The design aspects we covered earlier deserve to be repeated. The silver dial maintains its beautiful design throughout the entire face, from the sub dials to the outer rim. Perfectly complementing the hour indexes, sub dials, bezel, case, and central dial hands, the only accents on the dial are the small black lettering and numerals and the beautiful blued sub dial hands and central second hand.

Pricing

The Jaeger LeCoultre Master Geographic Silver Dial Black Leather Men’s Watch retails for $11,700, however you can purchase it cheaper at different trusted online retailers.
